Jake: 12 days

Jake went to the pediatrician yesterday and now weighs 7lbs, 5oz! He's eating and gaining weight like a champ, so his doctor is allowing us to feed on demand now. Before we would wake him, if he wasn't already awake, to feed every 2-3 hours. Unfortunately, that's still pretty much his schedule, but he'll go alittle longer at night (4 hours once!), so that's a plus.

Jake got his first bath last night... during which he pooped

3 times!!! Maybe we shouldn't do this right after a feeding... as you can see, his stomach is pretty full. :-) He wasn't as fussy as I thought he'd be, but there must be an easier way.

Jake: Week 1

On discharge (2/17) Jake weighed 6lbs, 9oz, was alittle jaundiced and his feedings were supplemented w/ about 0.5oz of formula. Fortunately, he gained some of the weight back and was 6lbs, 12oz at yesterday's pedi visit (picture of him all bundled up on his way to the doctor) and taken off formula.

This first week has been pretty exhausting. Since I'm breastfeeding, his feeding schedule pretty much dictates my sleeping schedule, which occurs every 2hrs during the day and every 3hrs at night, with each feeding lasting about an hour. Jake's been a really easy baby so far. As long as his diaper's clean and his stomach's full, he's happy and sleeping. You can't ask for anything more than that!

My parents, oldest sister and her husband came up to visit Jake today. They brought more gifts for Jake and lots and lots of food!

My Little Valentine

I didn't think that Jake would be coming nearly 2 wks early, so I didn't want to call the doctor-on-call on a Saturday morning and be one of those moms who calls about every little thing. I finally caved and called around 7am to see if I should be worried since my contractions were pretty constant and weren't letting up and was given the option to go to the hospital or wait it out at home. I decided to stay home and hope that the pain subsides.

Since it was getting more painful, I decided that I wanted to go ahead and go. We arrived at the hospital around 10am on Saturday to rule out labor after talking to Dr. Umholtz (on call for Dr. Jacobs). Contractions were coming every 7 minutes on the dot at this point.

Upon the initial exam, I was dilated 3-4cm and 100% effaced when I arrived. I could've tried to have a vaginal birth, but I still wanted the C-section.

I was given the epidural in the OR about 1:30pm. While in there, Dr. Jacobs had texted Dr. Umholtz to let her know if any of her patients called, so luckily we were able to have our OB there for us even though she wasn't on call.

The whole process seemed pretty routine. After Jake was delivered, the doctors noticed that I had a pretty big fibroid tumor (about the size of a two attached limes) attached to the outside of my uterus, so they removed that while they were in there and sent it to pathology (results still pending). It was attached to the back of the uterus, so that's probably why it was missed on our ultrasounds. She said that the tumor was necrotic and over time it would've twisted and caused alot of pain and would've eventually needed to be removed. Thank goodness I had the surgery!

Baby Jake Hai Tran has arrived!

Baby Jake Hai Tran arrived at 2:14pm on 2/14/09 - A Valentine Baby! It will be easy to remember his birthday! It's was kinda cool on his arrival time as well. 2:14 = 2/14.

Anyways, his legal name will be Jacob but we will call him Jake. He weighted in at 7 pounds and 3 ounces and 20 inches long. He has a full set of hair and very cute. Judy says he looks like me but it hard to say so early.

Judy is recovering and doing well. She is still feeling discomfort when walking around but doing very well considering the surgery.

Judy is breastfeeding and she is doing great. It's actually amazing to see.

Hopefully later, Judy can log in later and type in what she had to go through on Saturday.

Pre-Labor?

I woke up about an hour ago with what can best be described as cramps. It doesn't last for very long... maybe 5 - 8 seconds, but it comes about every 5 to 7 minutes. I think they're those Braxton Hicks contractions since they don't seem to be getting more intense. Needless to say, I can't sleep.

It's 4:10am and another contraction just passed.

38 weeks

I probably shouldn't be sharing this, but I passed my mucous plug today. The OB said that that might happen and that although it is a precursor to labor, it may take days or even weeks before you may actually go into labor. I just hope I make it through our Valentine's dinner tomorrow night at Abacus!

Update: 37 weeks, 7 days

Our c-section has been rescheduled for next Thursday, February 19, 2009 at noon.
